Of laws, and their application

Morkael,

I find this argument of yours quite interesting. What you claim to be
saying is that we shouldn't let the letter of the law defeat the spirit
of the law. But considering that the spirit of the law is to prevent
overharvesting in all its variations, I'm not really seeing how
Oakstone's judgement works against that.

In fact, what you are really saying is "You should ignore the letter of
the law because I believe Silverfox is a good person."

Unfortunately, the minute -anyone- begins to think in these terms, this
seductive call of "the laws surely didn't mean for -this- to happen,"
the whole organization starts on a inevitable slide towards cronyism and
corruption. The Heirophants absolutely did the right thing by applying
the law evenly, in accordance with the ample precedents. To have done
anything else would have been unworthy of their position, and lacking in
honor.
