Any historical references come as per the Dark Lord's Memories.
The Eye of Proteus was found prior to the War for Humanity, but sealed
away for a hundred years. Lord Twilight brought it out to better examine
it, and the Eye of Proteus subsequently corrupted Him.
"The subtlety of My nature was being smoothly undone. I began to be
seeded instead with unbridled greed and the drive to punish by any
means. I did not at first realize that My nature was changing."
Such corruption was gradual, and the Eye of Proteus was transferred from
the Prince of Darkness' possession upon His recognition of its
influence.
"I sought to put the Eye out of My possession, suspecting it was the
cause, but having been under the enchantment of the Eye for so long, My
judgment was warped."
With the Eye later destroyed, the hex upon Lord Twilight was similarly
put to rest, yet its barbed tendrils still remained. Thus, the Dark Lord
withdrew into the Eyn Sof, to cleanse himself of the remnants of the
curse.
The curse was purged through the Divinations of the Dark Lord, but
relations cannot be as such repaired. So Lord Twilight found it
requisite to break away from His past. As part of such new beginnings,
He finds it necessary to move the Obelisk of Darkness out from Hashan
and into the Wilderness, which will sever His remaining binding ties.
With the removal of this religious site from Hashan, he no longer
burdens the city with its presence, and finalizes His renewal.
Thus may the past be as the dust, among the dust, and into the wind.
