The children of Ashtan

Dear Greywolf,

First of all I would like to commend you on your bravery in voicing your
opinion on what appears to be a most touchy subject across the realm.
The fate of Ashtan's orphans seems to be an oft-debated problem,
especially in Shallam and I imagine you have since engendered much abuse
for being so vociferous.

At present, I and My brother, Pandemonium, are essentially orphans. Our
Father is warring somewhere and is unreachable, Our Mother...well, who
knows what She is today. Perhaps a piece of lettuce, being consumed by a
great cosmic rabbit, maybe a firework exploding in a colourful sky on
some unreachable plane of existence. Whatever and wherever She may be,
She has not been scourged from the lands like some vicious taint, but
She is not here to give Her blessing to the removal of the Orphanage.

As an orphan Myself, I should perhaps be greatly against the use of
lollipops to lure them to possible death or salvation, one way or the
other. It is possible that I believe the orphans should be allowed to
live free without being used for religious purposes, be they good or
bad. However, I personally, have a great affection for that which
brought about the arrival of My Mother, and subsequently Me and My
Brother, who would not exist were it not for the chaotic events
surrounding the Orphanage and the Spawn of Unnamable Horror.

I cannot order that the city of Ashtan embrace the changes that have
thus far rocked My Mother's existence to such an extent that they close
the Orphanage down! Such changes have left Her seemingly irretreivably
broken, and I would like to hold on to the things that remind Me of Her
and of Her great strength, Her industriousness, Her unending courage,
Her sense of fun, Her great inquisitiveness and curiosity and Her
ability to challenge staid and stagnant structures and bring about
change and triumph! My Mother created the orphanage, and the orphanage
created Her. I don't think it should be torn down without good reason
and full, unanimous consent.

I applaud Shallam for taking steps towards becoming culturally diverse
and for embracing the spirit of tolerance, in that you'll allow Chaos
Lords to pass within your city walls, but I don't feel that it is your
right to ask Ashtan, in turn, to destroy something that holds so much
meaning for Her, and those who have toiled to build Her and keep Her
alive and strong.

Pandora, Goddess of Mischief, divine Patron of Ashtan.

P.S. I'm sorry We weren't quite able to wrest the victory in Capture the
Flag from you, and Eleusis were good opponents, but you must admit, We
sure were kicking some tush out there! We nearly had them boys and
girls, Goooo Ashtan!!

Penned by my hand on the 21st of Aeguary, in the year 340 AF.
