Keeper of the Balance

I quote from the sentinel helpfile, as that comment was directed at the
guildmaster of that guild.

A Sentinel has the freedom to become whatever they choose to be, with
one condition. No matter what you become, you are always a Sentinel
first. You can be good, or you can be bad, just keep it out of the
forests, or you will answer to a Sentinel.

Please note that there is no indication that Sentinels strive to ensure
a balance between good or evil. Also note that none of the other 3
forestal guilds do. Many of the forestals dislike the church almost as
much as they do mhaldor, and many of them simply don't care.

We are forestals, not Keepers of the Balance. Burn a forest, harm
nature, and we come after you. Burn a city, kill some innocents, and
we'll never bother you as long as they aren't ours. And yes, I realize
my title right now says I do exactly that- but it is a different sort of
balance, one for myself, not that of the scales of good and evil.

In the past, there were evil druids. They decided to start burning
things. Mhaldor decided to start exterminating things. So now, most
forestals don't really like evil much. We don't hate you because you're
mhaldorian. We don't hate you because you kill children. We don't hate
you because you subjugate people. We hate you because you hurt the
forest. It really is a simple concept really.

And yes, many mhaldorians have nothing within their power to really harm
the forest. But hey, the world sees Oakstone, Eleusis, Sentinels,
Sylvans, and Druids all as the same thing, and you expect us to see you
all as seperate? I am not a sentinel. I am not even a member of
oakstone, even its laws affect me as much as anyone else. I was a Druid
for most of my life, and now I'm a Sylvan. All of these organizations
are dedicated to protecting the forest, but we're not the same. But that
is another post for another time. The point is, supporting a necromancer
who's exterminated more times than I can count is almost as bad, to me
and most forestals, as doing it.

If Ashtan, Hashan, Cyrene, or Shallam started burning the forest, we'd
be just as angry.

Raes Longshanks, Beast of Upheaval

Penned by my hand on the 4th of Ero, in the year 335 AF.
