Oakstone laws

Rianne,

It is very kind of you to request Oakstone input on your laws regarding
the proper treatment of Nature. If you are earnest about that desire,
you should perhaps contact one of the Heirophants directly, who will be
happy to work with you.

You are also correct that Oakstone does not write your laws or enforce
laws inside your city. We do, however, enforce the law inside the
Forest. One of our laws is that if you harm Nature, anywhere, anytime,
you shall not be able to enjoy the solace of the Forests. This is our
law, enforced everywhere we have that authority, i.e. inside the
aforementioned Forests.

Understand, this is no different than saying that if you have a habit of
killing our citizens, you are not welcome in our city. It is not an
assault on anyone's sovereignty to hold people responsible for all of
their deeds. As I am given to understand, taking full responsibility for
one's actions is a part of the philosophy of the Order of at least one
of Hashan's Patron/Matron Gods, thus this should make sense to you.

The other, more abstract notion that people seem to miss is that
Oakstone cares not for your cities or your notions of sovereignty. This
is because all sapient life belongs to the land; the land does not
belong to us. This simple fact means there is only one thing that drives
us: protecting Nature. If you aid us in this, you are allies, If you
thwart us or harm Nature yourself, you are enemies. Nature will continue
to exist when the follies of Man have decayed to ruin.
