Greetings,
I speak for myself and not for Cyrene. I am but
a former member of the beautiful city. I will
provide to you some input as to my reasonings for
certain decisions during my time as the Imperiate.
Yes, I'm Elysian. I don't hide that fact, but
then very few understand what it truly means to be
an Elysian. I am not a member of the Church. Shortly
after my acceptance of the position of Imperiate,
I became aware that members of the Church were
being made to choose between Cyrene and the Church.
I had not been told I had to choose, but the others
had been. I demanded to be ousted, as you could not
quit the church. In my position, I did the only
proper thing. Did it leave a bad taste in my mouth,
you bet it did. I had much inner turmoil about
being Elysian and being treated as I had been by the
Church, but I went back to the grassroots of what I
feel being an Elysian means. Being Elysian means I
always strive to attempt to do the right thing. No,
I won't always do the right thing, but as long as I
learn from my mistakes, and do not repeat them, I
continue to walk in the Light. It means that if I
have an opportunity to assist an innocent, I do.
Upon selecting Senators for Cyrene. The city was
new, there were no elections. I had a very short
period of time to provide the names. I chose people
I felt would be able to create beliefs for the city
and uphold them. With a background in Shallam and
the Church, it is only natural that the people I
would trust came from there. It was also in my
mind that after the city settled, those I selected
would be contested and replaced by those chose by the
citizens. As I would also eventually be replaced.
I never dreamed I would be the Imperiate for 25 years.
The reasons for followers of Darkness, Chaos, Evil
and War not being allowed membership in Cyrene was
simple. Cyrene, up to that point, had been a city
where people went to get away from conflict. The
citizens that survived had a right to expect that
their beliefs would be taken into consideration as
all these strangers flocked to their quiet city.
Darkness - My personal dealings with Darkness, led
me to feel that in the infancy of the re-founding
that type of turmoil would be detrimental to Cyrene.
Chaos - Within the help file of Eris, it states,
"She delights in intrigue and plots, favouring those
who show an uncommon aptitude in disrupting the
establishment." Another belief that Cyrene did not
need while it was in it's infancy.
War - Aegians live for war, another thing that I felt
a young re-found City did not need.
Evil - I felt that Cyrene definately did not need
evil within their membership.
I did not create the Twelve Tables in a vacuum. They
were created by the Senators and provided to every
citizen for comments, suggestions, and changes. All
input by the citizens was discussed and placed within
the laws of the city. The founders of Cyrene were the
citizens. The Elysians and Church members were by far
the minority. Three Elysians, No Church members.
The current citizens of Cyrene now get the choice.
They have voted for every Senator that is in office.
If the Senate and citizens of Cyrene do not wish for
followers of certain Orders to be allowed citizenship,
that is their perogative. Strongarm tactics will not
win their favour, for they are an intelligent group of
people. I have hopefully left them with a legacy and
that they realize, as before, they have a right to
choose what their city is.
