Rationalism

It is indeed every city's right to determine who they want to let in and
who they do not. No one has the right to force a city to change. With
that being said, every mortalkind has a right to express their
rationality, as long as reason is left free to combat it.
Recently, there was a debate presided by Lady Lethe to discuss which
philosophy would be most conducive to a perfect society, attended by
representatives of Evil, Darkness, and Chaos. With similar claims now
being made by these three philosophies, and of War, I will explain why a
rational society cannot maximize prosperity if these four philosophies
were allowed to spread.
EVIL
Mhaldor is a facist state. It will agree-- those that lead Mhaldor claim
that only the smartest, strongest, and most loyal lead their city. The
ignorant, weak masses of Mhaldor should get no power. However, facism is
flawed, based on the premise that those in power cannot err. Mortals
err. Leaders mess up, in every society. Facist leaders cannot be held
responsible for their errors-- to question their perfectness is to
question their authority. They cannot admit mistakes. They have no
incentive to learn from their errors, and to make better judgements. As
a result of their arrogance and self-pride, their society stagnates.
WAR
War destroys nations and the individuals that comprise society. War
cannot create--only destroy. When society employs resources with the
pure aim of destruction, they sacrifice the ability to use those
resources to create a better society. Imagine all that Aegeans could do
instead of waging war, raiding villages and destroying individuals'
welfare. The opportunities open to them are endless. When a society is
based on warfare, and warfare alone, that society wastes resources that
could have been used to progress society.
CHAOS
Members of Eris's own Order, in Lady Lethe's debate misdefined Chaos.
Erisians claim that Chaos is the primal force of change--that Chaos
causes change. However, before Chaos ever even entered into this world,
the world was expanding, progressing, and changing. New ideas, new
actions, new technologies all existed before Chaos was ever heard of.
Chaos cannot be defined as the cause of change. What is Chaos? Sarapis
in His Omniscience, has posted on the dangers of Chaos (PUBLIC 142): "It
is true that Creation itself will never be threatened by total
destruction. However, it is worth pointing out that the small part of
Creation occupied by mortals very well could be destroyed by Chaos. . .
Mortalkind, and the enemies of Chaos especially, are always at risk in
this nigh-eternal struggle between the primal forces in Creation." Never
question the dangers and potential of Chaos to cause "total destruction"
of society as we know it, for Sarapis Himself has told you of its
dangers.
DARKNESS
Darkness is subtle, but perhaps the most dangerous to society. While
those who seek out some form of Truth can achieve it, Darkness fails to
inform you who is eligible for knowledge. Only those who ascribe to
Darkness may achieve knowledge. Only those who are selected as the
Darkwalkers may become enlightened. When Twilight repeatedly cleanses
His following, how may someone continue learning in His footsteps
without His guidance? Knowledge is only gained when you are deemed
worthy. The average citizen may never acquire the means and methods to
learn and gain wisdom. Darkness denies to the average mortal the right
to Knowledge and Enlightenment. Where only the elite are enlightened,
the masses cannot compete, and a democratic society stagnates.
