True Friends

Your friends are shown to be true
When trouble and peril are upon you
Those who stand by and don't question why
Are the ones that are loyal and help you survive

I thought that my friends were good and true
I confided in them when I felt really blue
They were there, and they heard
Comforting me with knowing words

But when trouble arrived
And I tried to hide
No one saw I was hurt
No one was that alert

Superficial "Oh no's" and unreal "Oh my's"
Were the only answers to my silent cries
When I tried to lean back
No one saw, they all left

My mistake was believing, being faithful and trusting
And the proof that my friends were really mistakes
Was the fact the only answer to the hand I was thrusting
Was a hollow sound that emptiness makes

True friend will know something's bothering you
They'll stand by and forever be faithful and true
They'll go out of their way, and help you get up
They'll be there and they'll help when life gets real tough

I assumed what I give I'll get back in return
If my life should get tough and their comfort I'll yearn
Foolish thoughts, my 'friends' care for no one but themselves
Say "I'm sorry", "That sucks", empty words, hollow shells

They were gone, no one stayed, no one offered a hand
All alone in the dark, tears flowing I stand
My voice lost its strength, but a whisper remains
Loneliness is my friend, but no comfort my heart gains

I guess in a way it is really my fault
If I say that I really am an adult
I should know where to find the strength to hold on
If I can't, to their world I will know I don't belong

Now I know what makes friends
With the others I'll make amends
But the door to my heart I won't open again
It hurts way too much, it's better when it's not began

Penned by my hand on the 13th of Daedalan, in the year 295 AF.
