A Eulogy

I will speak for you if given the opportunity, but I feel this is better written, as you did. As those close to you did. May you forgive that my practice is not so formidable as yours, and yet in terms of tribute I am compelled.

You are not forgotten.

-----

A fire walked the length of years,
a storm that rose the tide.
A road shaped of loss and tears,
yet unbroken was your stride.

Wherever fell your measured tread,
the world bore witness to your name.
No other hand could shape as you did,
no other soul could bear such flame.

A paladin of celestial Light,
most favoured beneath the Sun,
a joyful star in the Darkest night,
proof that any battle could be won.

Seeking justice, thought was burned
to ash beneath a bleak grey sky.
Yet even there, the embers learned
to burn and crackle, and refuse to die.

Struck your name from stone and breath,
thought your spirit knew how to fail.
Yet in their haste to bring your death,
they brought forth the blackest gale.

Ellie says your will endured,
too fierce to bow, too proud to bend.
Unbroken, and a fleet secured,
you chose to fight until the end.

Raise a chalice in his name,
for a man who stood apart.
Sing the ballads of his fame,
and behold an iron heart.

A final breath unfit for Dorn;
you deserved a better passage into rest.
Perhaps in guarding you from scorn,
we delayed completion of your quest.

Your journey through the ages,
how very winding it may be,
is writ upon endless pages,
with an epilogue yet to see.

May those who breathe in relief,
with their secrets locked up tight,
enjoy these fleeting moments
before all is brought to Light.

May your banners fly proud and high
on parapets you once raised tall,
and a man once left to ignobly die
becomes what makes the guilty fall.

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Daedalan, in the year 994 AF.
