Fishing

Cast your line out, cast it long--
Wicked barb tied neatly
To a thread like gossamer song.
It whistles in the breeze as
The reel screams, "High!"
Pitch it out into the sea.
Try, my boy... just try.

Cast your line out, cast it far--
Don't be stingy with the bait,
Be brilliant! For the world needs a star:
Share your light, burn bright,
Just burn for something more than
What they think you are.

Cast your line. Then you wait--
A nibble then a strike
Will catch you unaware.
Lose your bait, then try again.
You'd like to be prepared.

When you get the timing right
You jerk and set the hook.
Now, my boy, that fish is yours--
Such brilliant scales, just look!

A fish hooked on a line of silk;
A meal to feed the soul;
A blessing from the wine-dark sea;
A lesson in control.

Cast your line, win or lose--
But cast it with your heart.
You are the bait;
You are the fish.
We all must play a part.

Penned by my hand on the 3rd of Chronos, in the year 890 AF.
