Encounter

I took a walk one day within the quiet forest
And happened on a pretty glade. Twas there
I found the tiny creature, dappled by the sunlight.
Its dewy eyes met mine and my breath caught.

It seemed as though I never saw such beauty -
Its form so gently fashioned, soft fur painted
As if with Nature's finest brush, the dainty thing,
So small, was yet her nonpareil, the final say.

The look between us hung for just one heartbeat
When to the dell arrived the mother doe.
She also gazed at me, and stepped between us -
I'd had my moment, now it was time to go.

Penned by my hand on the 22nd of Chronos, in the year 863 AF.
