Change Arc

“You’re free to choose.”
But the biggest lie of all is choice.

The king from above or the fool from below?
Is this a horned crown I wear or a bone halo?
Did the Prophet know his words would ring true,
Do the seers truly know the fate we’re due?

How do we know what is sin and what is crime,
When this world follows neither rhythm nor rhyme?
How is one to know which lyrics to sing,
When the musicians can’t agree on anything?

Everything that begins never ends yet nothing really remains.
The Gods claim to know the way but men outlive Their reign.
Everyone knows the truth, but chooses to live the lie.
We all float without purpose and few ever stop to wonder why.

“Children of Creation” we reassure ourselves,
Knowing our father lived outside this hollow shell.
Set apart by powers supreme, we waste away playing Their games,
We constantly toil in futility to bring about change,
Despite everything we do, it all plays out the same.

Good and Evil revel in their own destruction.
Nature grows weak and consumes its own.
Darkness dances with its own shadows.
And Chaos bends the knee to the whims of the ineffable.

The King? The Fool? The Halo or the Horns?
Behind the mask, we’re all the same.
Just castaway wretches washed ashore on an island destined to be swallowed by the sea.
Let them lay claim to their place in the sand.
Come build an arc with me.

Penned by my hand on the 3rd of Daedalan, in the year 850 AF.
