The wise man of the mountain

High upon the lonely mountain is he
An old man known for his tranquility
Many would go to pay him homage
For wisdom from this faraway sage

Each would return feeling much rewarded
Received words that left them quite affected
But Unbeknowst to the pilgrims is something else...
The advice is same no matter the story each tells!

He would listen to their problems patiently
And nod his head and settle to think quietly
Then say these same words in every case
"What is it you are unwilling to face?"

This man in the little hut by the little brook
Is he truly wise or perhaps .. a crook?
The land is wide and the mountains high
To know it all is unto self, deny

"When I was young and foolish, I thought I knew something
Then I got older and more well-travelled, and I thought I knew everything
And now, when I am renowned as a wise man ....
.... the only thing I know is that I know nothing"

-- the wise man of the mountain

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Valnuary, in the year 768 AF.
