Dance of the Demons

Tonight, tonight, the demons parade
as hushed gold lights from lanterns sway
with crooked dance, it shall begin
strange creatures move in sweetest sin

wandering pairs, and soft of foot
innocent eyed, the night they took
incipient lovers of yearning hearts
ones love pure, the other dark

in labyrinthine patterns the demons curl
with luring music the lights unfurl
the maiden leads, into the procession
a grinning facade of nearing succession

into the demons, the lovers lapse
with chittering hunger the demons rasp
the young man holds the girl in fear
who smiles softly, ear to ear

and with slitted eyes and breath so sweet
her teeth pierce flesh, a delicious deceit
with body deliquesce and eyes so blurred
she sputters a laugh, the silence disturbed.

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Scarlatan, in the year 548 AF.
