The Serpent and the Songbird

The serpent and the songbird sit
Amongst the muses heavenly
Trying so hard to just not submit

Enraptured, though they won't admit
The affections held, so silently
The serpent and the songbird sit

A pillar of strength, afraid to commit
She preens her feathers absentmindedly
Trying so hard to just not submit

Mother Maya won't you please permit
Euterpe to pluck her harp tranquilly
While the serpent and the songbird sit

Dreaming of the air element
The serpent waits ever patiently
Trying so hard to just not submit

Their objections raised, made counterfeit
This they know, so foolhardily
The serpent and the songbird sit
Trying so hard to just not submit.

Penned by my hand on the 22nd of Valnuary, in the year 456 AF.
