Unicorn Star

The forest was hushed with wonder
The little one entered this world
His proud father was the wild thunder
His mother a rainbow, unfurled
He carefully stood
In the thick of the wood
And stared at the moon and the sky
But soon a small sound
Made him look to the ground
Where a chipmunk was scurrying by
singing:
"Whither thou goest my wee lad?
And dost knowest who thou art?
A Unicorn's horn is the star of the morn
In this world we all play a part."

He puzzled this new revelation
And gazed at himself in the stream
A gilded horn grew from his snowy white brow
His hide was the color of cream
The unicorn, shy,
From beneath lowered eye
Watched the chipmunk sing his merry tune
And when it was through
The little one knew
That his destiny lay with the moon
singing:
"Whither thou goest my wee lad?
And dost knowest who thou art?
A unicorn's horn is the star of the morn
In this world we all play a part"

He wandered all night through the forest
Wondering just how to start
By the time that the dawn was beginning to show
He knew the path to his heart
To the hilltop he crept
And from it he leapt
To the heavens still dark with the night
And the chipmunk does say
He's still up there today
Shining with radiant light
singing:
"Whither thou goest my wee lad?
And dost knowest who thou art?
A unicorn's horn is the star of the morn
In this world we all play a part"
