Sweets from a Sweet

As many other bards before me in the Lyricist's path, I was assigned to
write a poem about Cyrene. I chose Martina as I have a sweet tooth! I
hope, if nothing else, my poem urges you to come and try some of her
tasty wares. It's a Pentrarchan sonnet which means the rhyme scheme is
abbaabba cdecde and it is all in iambic pentameter. Sonnets are usually
about love and so, this one is about love of confection. Now you have
learned something if you didn't know already. Enjoy!

The flour dusts her fingertips and hair.
Voice humming softly as she slowly stirs,
Lovingly mixing the sweets one prefers.
Carefully stoking the fire to prepare;
Ev'ry orange meringue is made with her care.
The tasty scents fill the kitchen with blurs
Reminding one's soul of sorrow's sweet cures
In the form of pralines, ready to share.

Give us a candy as sweet as your smile.
Allow us the pleasure of one more lick.
Ease the woes of the down trod in Cyrene
With the meringue for which I'd walk a mile.
Let us all eat 'til our tummies are sick.
Sweet Martina, you are the sugar queen!

Penned by my hand on the 9th of Ero, in the year 417 AF.
