The Lonely House

I sat in my house,
Reading upon my couch.
Nearby I heard a mouse,
In my dark and lonely house.

The fire blazing, warm,
Lent no comfort to my arm.
The outside was dark and dank,
Near my dark and lonely house.

The mouse had grown many,
And stayed in the room away.
Feet shuffled, like a horde,
In my dark and lonely house.

A battle, loud and clear,
Cleared its way to my ear.
The mice were men,
In my dark and lonely house.

I sat alone, shadows thrown,
The dead realeased a moan,
And I sat there shaking,
In my dark and lonely house.

Too frightened to cry,
Too scared to lie,
I listened to the dead,
In my dark and lonely house.

The cries got louder,
My heart pounded harder.
The dead arrived,
In my dark and lonely house.

Terror across the manor,
The sound of an adder,
Apparitions I saw,
In my dark and lonely house.

I cry aloud, 'Go home, Go home!'
But I am all alone,
And noone responds,
In my dark and lonely house.

The sound is louder,
My ears pound harder;

And all is gone,
In my dark and lonely house.

Penned by my hand on the 15th of Lupar, in the year 403 AF.
