Put me down for twenty
And I roll the dice once more..
I hold my breath, then as I watch
The ivory hit the board.
I watch as they hit seven
And I down my glass of booze
And the attendant curtly tells me,
Sir, sometimes you have to lose.
I trade a few grand worth of chips
And quickly turn around...
For time is of the essence
And there's money to be found.
A gambler lives inside me
I hear him call my name.
And smile as he pulls me towards,
Another 'lucky' game.
I don't be because I have to
I need to, or I can...
There really ain't a reason
And that's just the way I am.
I finally choose a table
One that's sweet and fine,
The woman deftly shuffles,
Mayhaps I'll win this time...
She deals out...five? Or seven cards?
I can't remember which...
She pulls back two to discard
And two more now to switch.
Her face card is an Ace of Spades
My face card is a four...
She smiles and collects my bet..
Hey, let me try once more...
Round and round my life goes
The wheel spins just like me..
But when it stops, I've lost and died..
And I just can't break free.
The colors on the table,
Match the colors in my eye..
When I win, I hope I can...
I'll leave this life behind.
I know I'll never change...but..
I'll play out like a song...
So put another hundred down
And bet me that I'm wrong.
Penned by my hand on the 3rd of Daedalan, in the year 391 AF.
