It all comes tumbling down...

In Memory
---------
The sun rose this morning over quiet fields
Shining down upon on tranquil country lanes
Tonight, the newly awoken moon shall rise
Above scorched ruins and bloodstained earth
Her argent rays illuminating the cold crater
That once was an ancient and peaceful village
Mourn, Sapience, for what has now been brought to ruin
Mourn, enemies and friends alike, for the fall of Thera
Now the dusty village roads are but a memory
The blossoming trees mere ashes in the wreck
Razed to the ground by golden-eyed outsiders
Who repaid Thera's hospitality with destruction
The village where they first spoke of peace
Now first to suffer overthrow by iron and fire
Mourn, Sapience, for what has now been brought to ruin
Mourn, enemies and friends alike, for the fall of Thera
Tomorrow the long rebuilding may begin
But even a phoenix is not reborn unscathed
Remember, all of ye, the village that had been
For no longer here shall Theran children sing
Or its inhabitants walk the devastated streets
That once was an ancient and peaceful village
Mourn, Sapience, for what has now been brought to ruin
Mourn, enemies and friends alike, for the fall of Thera.
Penned by my hand on the 15th of Glacian, in the year 385 AF.
