Some muses upon the subject of Birdwatching

I get up in the morning
When the light is dull and grey
And for the sight of a bird in flight
I ferverently pray.

***

Have you got a ruff?
Do your wings have yellow ends?
Are you something rarely seen,
I can boast of to my friends?

***

No! I'm not a pervert,
Gazing at your breast.
I'm looking for some long-tailed tits.
I politely ignore the rest!

***

When I stop to picnic
And out to sea I stare,
Why am I always over here
While the birds are over there!

***

And, finally, the Birdwatcher's Lament...

Oh, small brown bird,
I wish I knew your name.
For small brown birds
All look the bloody same!

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Sarapin, in the year 384 AF.
