The Greenwood

Mighty oak, you rise into the sky,
Great master of all you survey.
Beneath your shade, let me lie,
And rest my head this day.

Within your branches, let me eat
Of the forest, and sate my need.
And stay there safe, so I may live
In absence of hate and of greed.

Let me breathe the fresh cool air,
And drink of the raindrops' stream.
Let me be comforted, in my lair
And of the greenwood dream.

By your serenity, I am blessed.
And by your strength defended,
And if you put me to the test
I will serve 'til life has ended.

Beneath your shade, let me lie
And there rest my weary head
And when it is time for me to die
Let your roots be my shelter and bed.

Penned by my hand on the 12th of Phaestian, in the year 376 AF.
