I awoke in the wake of your parting.
A road stretched before my beaten eyes
To your silhouette burning on the horizon.
Gelid realization grasped tightly my shaking hands.
Bittersweet was the comfort of your happiness,
For 'twas something I could not provide.

The brush of our last kiss was dead on my lips,
Like wilted asphodel.
Tears like lava seared my icy cheeks,
For the kiss itself never had chanced to live.

Did you die in our final embrace?
As I cried on my knees in disgrace
When discovered was your love in another face
Of a daemon bathed in infernal laud?

Did you scream for the gods to rewrite
Every bloodstained page in the book of time?
For the fleeting chance that the happenstance
Of our meeting would occur in the favor of fate?

One has never suffered
Lest one has ever loved
And lost to bureaucratic decree...
Romance in second place
To glory's last ratrace,

To think of every petty trial I'd conquered for your heart!

Ever will I be absolved?
I would let my blood spill for your life!
Does my honesty damn
Or dam the love streaming forth from my strife?

deleteline 39
Will my name eternally be
A curse upon your precious tongue?
Will every time your eyes arise
To meet mine, will you writhe?

Oh wretched heart of mine!
Engulfing me in the sorrow of affections lost...

The brush of our last kiss was dead on my lips,
Like wilted asphodel.
Tears like lava seared my icy cheeks,
For the kiss itself never had chanced to live

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Daedalan, in the year 369 AF.
