winter

Through the chilly winter's day
we walked hand in hand along the riverside
you stopped midstride, and turned, as if to say
that something weighed upon your mind.

Through the chilly winter's day
you shook your head, a frown rested upon your lips
which parted, then, a little way
before you shook your head again and left me standing there.

Through the chilly winter's day
whilst frost adorn'd the trees you so adore
I stood, a picture of confusion, eyes grey
and watched you leave without so much as a farewell.

Through the chilly winter's day
I shivered, wishing I could go after you
to pursue you; not so much to make you stay
but rather to ask the question to which I already know the answer.

Penned by my hand on the 17th of Ero, in the year 368 AF.
