Fireflies - Childhood Summers

How could I forget the fireflies of summer?
Running outside, the dewy tickle of grass between my toes
The cool night breeze sending shivers down my back
I stand impatiently, waiting for the fireflies to appear
They come like magic, little bulbs of light shining in the humid dusk
I reach out and pluck one from the darkening sky
I feel its wings beating against my sweaty palm
And its feet crawling along my clenched fingers
I peek into my little fist, wanting to see its glow
Full of wonder, I open my hand to set it free
Watching, as its wings unfold and it gently takes off
Into the purple sky

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Daedalan, in the year 364 AF.
