Through It All

Through It All

Softly the winds whisper to me
In the distance light beckons bright
Quiet in my grove, silent and alone,
I hear your voice echoing in the night

You, alone also and seeking voices
To banish the stillness in the air
Mind to mind, I whisper softly
Not knowing how it would fare

Long days and longer months
Our conversations light and sweet
Always a laugh or comforting arm
Always happy when we'd meet

Even though certain individuals
Would seek you exposed and kill
Did not stop your pursuit and the dance
It never stopped your heart and will

Always returning knowing death
Could claim you for just being there
Feeling vines coil about your body
You'd still gently touch my hair

However, bashfulness ruled us
Our touches brief and held reserve
Eyes staring under the mistletoe
Not sure if the other could observe

A date to a play, joy and laughter,
Intervention by my cousin and best friend
Allowed love's bloom to blossom
Bringing the shyness to a gentle end

You stated your desire and want
Into your arms I fell and gave a kiss
As you proposed to me that moment
I knew a taste of Divine bliss

I held you close, hearing your heart
As the coiling vines twisted around
Lifting your body away from me
Leaving me in tears on the ground

Making a decision, you changed,
Leaving behind the champion cause
So those heavy tears wouldn't fall
And hoping the killing might pause

You gave your heart and word
That even if mortally we may fall
You will wrap me in your arms
Keeping me safe through it all
