Wandering Knight

It shone so clear in moonlight
And glistened on his skin..
A sweat that seemed to linger there..
He paused, to break it in.

He got it just last Tuesday,
At the faire that passed through town
And gave up his last penny
As he playfully threw it around.

"Ill be a Knight, I know, someday."
But when he wasnt sure.
So he packed up his belongings,
And trudged across the moor.

The lonely days, and Winter months
And left him hard, and worthy now
You could see it from his soul.

One day a man approached him
And asked him for his gold
And said he had a wife at home
Dying from a cold.

Overtaken with his grief
The man just sobbed and sobbed.
But while the Knight consoled him so,
He didnt see him rob.

Chuckling to himself at once,
The man stood up to wave.
But before he had a chance to run
He was ready for his grave.

Quickly now, and quick again
He thrust his sword in him.
The journey here was far to long
To give up so far in.

"Perhaps this is my true calling"
Thought the Knight unto himself..
"To save the people from the vile
Whod like to steal their wealth."
He marched soon on to cities,
To Villages and fairs
And rid them of the villains
That made their home up there.

He became renowned throughout the land
A hero, true and true!
And after time had passed away
He wondered what to do.

"It seems to me.." the Knight had thought:
"I seem to do this well.
But is this what Im destined?
Only time will tell."

So onward then, he journeyed long
To seek his newest grace..
And then he chanced to stop to rest
And see her pretty face.

"Milady, thou shine down the light
Of Heaven and the stars.
Surely thou hast need of me?
Ill follow where you are."

She fluttered long her lashes
And glanced into his eyes.
And none could see the love he had
As Scarlet sun doth rise.

Merry, golden wedding bells
Adorned the summer air.
And Merry golden threads were spun.
Onto her lovely hair.

"Hurray!" they cheered "The Ladys hand
Will forever more be pure.
For this is what they call true love
Of that we are most sure!"

Longer seemed the days to him
And colder seemed the nights.
But still he stayed there with her..
For he had lost all rights.

He felt himself imprisoned
Captured and abused..
That all his life until right now
Was nothing than a ruse.

And then it seemed to hit him.
The journey was his answer.
An answer never wrong.

So you can see, if you look well
Under tawny skies.
The visage of his armour-shine
And his legacy of "Why?"

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Ero, in the year 349 AF.
