meaning

A child once asked me,
Why do the gods make us suffer?

I could have answered her

That leaves do not move without a wind to move them
That seeds endure the rain to grow anew
That we share our pain with those we love to make our love all the
stronger
That without suffering there is no life; for all life is suffering and
death our only release
That even angels cry sometimes
That suffering is all in the mind, and the pain you feel now will become
joy in time
That we age and grow older and wiser and all time teaches us new lessons
That the meaning of life is to live, in all its aspects

I told her

Only the Gods know that

Penned by my hand on the 25th of Scarlatan, in the year 331 AF.
