A Song Held in Their Hearts

He came upon a winter's night
In cloaks both brown and gray
And chaffed his hands 'gainst winter's bite
In hopes of warmer days

His breath was mist and then froze still
His steps were quick and long
He was not dressed 'gainst winter's chill
And in his heart, A Song

A song of love, or mayhaps peace
A song of joy and care
His beating heart, it would not cease
Long as the song was there

Through paths quite cruel, though some were kind
He wandered without sin
And Maidan's grace he soon did find
The name of a quaint inn

A song soon found his singing heart
And joined in verse for verse
And now his own song could not part
Twas caught in love's sweet curse

Copper red hair and soft blue eyes
The source of this song's sound
In fires deep and soaring skies
His other song he'd found

They fled the inn, heeding love's call
And binding vows were said
Through the streets they ran, she did fall
And then the ice ran red

And there it was a winter's night
With talons sharp and long
Without the love or warmth or light
His heart without a Song

He cried in vain and to his knees
He fell next to his love
But winter's night ignored his pleas
No song from up above

His heart did stop his body died
More pain then life allowed
Next to his love, forever lied
Near her lips formed a cloud

She woke to find her love grown cold
And knew her life's worst fears
His frozen hand did she hold
And ice formed from her tears

Then through the night she heard a sound
Of voices raised in song
And knew that love once it was found
Can not stay lost for long

She travels paths both dark and light
Her soul not torn apart
And through the darkest coldest nights
A Song held in her heart
