Beyond Third Time's Charm and Fish in the Sea
is the waking space when memory believes
before knowing is born. Birthed, knowing finds
the damaged nature of its present body.
Memory yearns for past, and love seeks portage
to future. The mangled heart that knowing meets
is too far gone to be of use; knowing's second birth
transfigures when it sees its curse.

Condemned to walk alone each day and night,
memory slips away into the shade, love lies asleep
beneath a mangrove tree and does not stir.
The stony heart just rests its head awhile.
Knowing wanders on.
