The Age of Black Woe: Part XV

In the depths of Memory, Slith sought council with Pazuzu in the wake of Khalas' demise.

The Prince of Woe offered no words of mourning. He showed no sadness and no regret. His focus lay solely on the bramble-stricken Seed before him, a gnarled tangle of Yggdrasian wood with shape as ever-changing as its Birth Tree. The thorned kernel flashed with corruption, veiling the fiendish visage of the primordial Demon in black unlight before his lips twisted into a malevolent grin, and Creation itself quaked with grim portent.

-

Spurned on by a fell corruption, the brambles of Yggdrasil struck once again, seeking the destruction of Petra on the 24th of Sarapin 924 AF.

United and weathered for battle, the defenders of Sapience immediately gathered, reinforcing the village with pointed swords and razor talons as a fog of soulbleed rose from far below. A horde of Undead coalesced out of the spectral essence, running rampant across farmer's fields and paths beaten flat by merchant carts. Dragonclaw and blade met their ingress, ripping clean through rotted flesh and banishing ethereal foe back to the terminus of Creation before the real threat clawed her way out of the soil: Virotal, Death Warmed Over.

Hundreds fell to the black Sorceress before the onslaught of Sycaerunax's brood finally stilled her. But for one so drenched in the essence of Undeath as Virotal that would not be enough. Once and then twice did her putrefying corpse rise onto its own shambling feet, still seeking the souls of her foes. It was only on the verge of defeat that Sapience rallied, reducing her body into nothing more than a formless heap of rotting flesh and shattered bone, and even then, a rattled breath still lingered on the wind.

With the lieutenant of Woe rendered incorporeal, the brambles of Yggdrasil were burnt to ash in a white-hot blaze of pure dragonfire, and the village of Petra was saved.

Summary: Pazuzu and Slith press on despite the death of Khalas. Meanwhile, the brambles of a corrupted Yggdrasil assailed the village of Petra but were burnt to ash after the defenders of Sapience defeated the Undead Sorceress Virotal.

Penned by My hand on the 24th of Daedalan, in the year 924 AF.
