Bad Company

The sun was setting on the City of Light the day the wandering merchant
suspected of fencing faulty and stolen goods to merchants worldwide
reappeared there. Making for the white marble walls and towering spires
of the Basilica, where he had spent some time on his previous travels,
he caught the notice of some who were acquainted with his miscreant
nature. One Archprelate Torain in particular took it upon himsef to
plead for the wanderer to reform his life, giving up the path of theft
and deceit to embark anew upon a path of Light with the Church. His
fellow citizens joined the call to reform, while the wanderer listened
with seeming attentiveness.

Meanwhile, a number of rather downtrodden, dirty, and ill-smelling
strangers meandered through the city's streets. Despite their bedraggled
appearance, they appeared to be nobles of some kind and drew much
attention as foreign nobles are likely to do. They seemed to enjoy the
attention, chatting at length with the crowd that drew about them. They
looked suspiciously like the nobles who had been seeking the wandering
merchant before, but this time, they were in no search or hurry.

Elsewhere in the city, a heist was well underway, completely unnoticed
at DeBurr's just off Darius Avenue. DeBurr's muffled screams for help
finally drew some attention, but only after the perpetrators had fled.
As concerned citizens rushed to DeBurr's aid, the strange nobles swiftly
took their leave as well. With striking similarity, the wanderer was
also suddenly quick to make his departure at that time, muttering a
hasty excuse and disappearing, as it were, into thin air. Shallam's
citizens quickly realized the wanderer and the nobles had likely been
scouting for and distracting from the jewellery heist, but their
searches for the jewel thieves were fruitless.

Penned by my hand on the 21st of Aeguary, in the year 445 AF.
