Renewed Purpose

Following a recent pronouncement from the Pentad that rendered myrrh's
former properties obsolete, Kastalia, Goddess of Lakes and Rivers, and
Melantha, Goddess of the Seasons, called the Council of Oakstone to them
in the Great Grove. Farret and Eldesa answered their summons, bringing
with them their forestal allies.

When many had gathered, the goddesses bade that they find an unharvested
myrrh bush near flowing water. They scattered far and wide, and it was
Danar who finally found such a bush growing near the river Zaphar.
Canina Silverwing plucked a single myrrh gum from the bush and, swimming
into the river, submerged the gum within the flowing waters.

Emerging with it, she held the myrrh aloft as the gathering chanted
together a prayer for the myrrh to transform its purpose. A bright glow
surrounded Canina and the two goddesses, and when the chant was over,
only silvery dust remained in Canina's hands. The goddesses smiled and,
before departing, would only say that the ritual had been a success and,
cryptically, that the myrrh's new purpose was not unrelated to its old.

Penned by my hand on the 17th of Sarapin, in the year 410 AF.
