After much consideration, we have decided to streamline our game forums,
IRE-wide. Though we appreciate that the forums have brought an
additional dimension to Achaea's community, over the years we have seen
many negative effects of the forums as well.
The OOC politics forum has especially been a concern. Real-life politics
can be an extremely divisive topic. While there can at times be
constructive and thoughtful discussions on the politics forum, it is
often a hotbed of personal attacks and hostility. Not only does this
affect general attitudes in other parts of the forums and at times bleed
into Achaea itself, it eats up time and energy from the moderating team.
This forum is being removed, and all discussion of real-life politics
and religion is no longer welcome on our forums. There are many other
sites on the internet devoted to discussion about such, and we now ask
you to visit one of them for your online politics/religion discussion
fix.
Along with this, we are streamlining the forums in this way: from the
OOC forums section, all forums not directly related to Achaea will be
removed, leaving only the Wander Inn (Meets) section and the Tech
Support section. From the IC forums section, the Inferno, Universal
Membrane, and Bazaar sections will be removed, leaving the General,
Combat, Ideas, RP, and Art sections. Restricted forums, such as the
Leaders and Classleads forums, shall remain the same.
The Inferno (rants) section is being removed because, as a section
devoted to negativity, like the politics section it breeds hostility and
negativity. You can still rant (within the forum rules) in the General
section, but we are no longer providing a forum dedicated to it. The
Membrane (raves) section is being removed because I feel silly removing
the Rants section and only leaving the Raves - I'm not trying to go all
Brave New World on you. You can also still rave in the General section.
The Bazaar is being removed because it promotes interactions that should
occur in-game, not on the forums.
We are drafting a tighter set of forums rules as well, which shall soon
be posted.
