Loss of a Historical Landmark

Not so very long ago, the modern guilds were founded. Count Harlequin,
an oft forgotten occultist, recruited an ambitious slip of a girl named
Servelan. Haidion began gathering young druids together. Crotalus slyly
began recruiting. Kothlun formed the Sentarai, and Changcoix formed the
Kharon. Odysseus was still a templar and had not yet founded the modern
priests. Little remains of this time in Achaea, except perhaps memories
of those who were but youths. But there was a physical manifestation
that marked this era, something very special - a gift from the Gods.
While Sir Gawain and then Sir Odysseus were still struggling to
rediscover the templar skills, the gods did gift them with a shrine.
This shining golden monument stood proudly atop the Cyclade in Ashtan.
For years it withstood ridicule and calls by some to tear it down, it
saw the Kharon Empire rise and fade, and it even persisted when the
Church seemed low. But no more.
Instead of keeping this monument proud and shining, the Church withdrew
into its cloisters. Concentrating on keeping the more strategic shrines
upstanding, the Church let the ravages of time wear down the golden
luster and its enemies, led by the exceptionally persistent Laergon,
finished the job. Now the first shrine of Achaea will nevermore shine.
Of course, who can blame the Church for concentrating its efforts on
other shrines, when the one atop the Cyclade offered little strategic
value? Who can argue that the Church owed nothing for this gift? It
served its use, and so, why shouldn't the Church let entropy take it
back to oblivion? Its just that I, and perhaps a few others, will
bow our heads and shed a single tear for the loss of a symbol of
memories gone by.
