A few thoughts...

There seems to be two separate sets here that are
intersecting yet not identical. One, there are these
items which are called 'altars' and equal, but not
mentioned yet, 'temples'. These are placed within
our world by a specific Deity. Therefore, these items
are connected with a specific realm or realms. Two,
there are these items which are called 'shrines'. These
are built by mortals and as the Church states are for the
worship of all Deities.
As the Church Scrolls state, 'In time, the Church grew to
represent the forces of Goodness, Light, and Order and fought
to push back what they viewed as the ever-growing chaos and
evil in an increasingly complicated and modern world. To this
end, the Church built the Chrysalis Basilica.... Although the
Church is not officially committed to any particular God,....'
One would think that the above excerpt proves that the Church
is a hypocritical organization but one would need to look
deeper and specifically at the term 'reverence'. Reverence
is a feeling of deep respect and awe. Although, I obviously
do not speak for the Church, I will presume that all Church
members, as well as all mortals, have reverence for all
Deities. Having reverence for the pantheon does not preclude
having differing paths nor does it preclude fighting for
differing paths. The Church, in its official statement, stands
for Goodness, Light, and Order. This means that it fights for
specific ideals yet still reveres all Realms.
One problem that has brought this all out is the placing of an
altar within the precincts of the Basilica. The altar was placed
by Sartan (therefore it is realm specific) in a site that was
built as a bastion against His realm. Although the Church has
not spoken out either for or against it, another Diety has
taken it upon Herself to remedy the situation. Therefore, the
Church is not acting as a hypocritical institution in this
instance.
