I said this earlier...and after reading all of these posts I feel
even more strongly about this. A second church and a second
priesthood should be erected.

Yes you heard me right, a second church and priesthood. Why?
Well, because I feel that the God's who's ideals are not those of
the church are not represented sufficently by the priests who exist.

You see, a priest gains his power from his devotion and faith in
his or her god. But why cannot one devoted to opposite ideals also
have faith and devotion to their god? And why cannot they gain the
powers given unto the priests?

The initial idea would to be create a faction that would break off
and form a Dark Church. But there are several problems to this...
primarily one is the fact that unless they hid it, new members
who wished to follow the paths set by the darker gods would not be
accepted into the priestly ranks. I say this because a "Dark"
priest would have many opposite views from the church. The second
problem is that until a secondary guild is made, the youthful will
more likely than not, never attempt to join the priests if they have
darkness in their hearts.

I don't know who would run the new church, and I don't know how well
it would do, but two things would occur. The Church needn't pretend
to be anything more than the guardians for the good and light gods,
and the shrines will be weapons for both sides and thus be much more
interesting, and maybe not a target of constant destruction.
