When it comes to the sport of Jousting, the DJL is committed to ensuring fair competitive play. To this end, in the interest of even matches, it is highly recommended that riders come prepared with lances utilising the 'training' descriptor.

This is merely a suggestion, not a requirement. If you wish to use other lances, you are certainly free to do so.
