A Citizen "On The Chopping Block"

Sapience,

My name is Aever. As many of you no doubt know, I stand no chance against any in a fight. I have no illusions about the number of times I shall die to many different hands as a result of Archaeons announcement.

The Hearth has promised to protect a child named Janusara. She is not a combatant, not a symbol, not a justification for anyones pride. She is simply a child who trusts that when Targossas says "we will protect you", those words are not conditional on our survival.

If I am to be placed on the chopping block, then let it be for her.

I cannot outfight those who will come. I cannot outmaneuver them, nor intimidate them with rank or reputation. What I can do is stand between Janusara and those who would harm or take her, knowing full well how that will end for me. I will do so without hesitation and without complaint. My life is a small thing; hers is not.

Some will say that this is foolish, that one soldiers death changes nothing. Perhaps they are right. But if my death delays harm by a moment, if it forces a blade to stop or a step to slow before reaching her, then it has meaning enough.

I do not ask for praise, protection, or remembrance. I ask only that this be understood: if I fall, it will not be because I was hunted well, but because I chose where to stand.

For Janusara, gladly, and without regret.

Aever
P.S. Eoka, I saw your "Poor, innocent logosmas sleigh" and arbitrarily called it "The Destroyer". As such, I proceeded to attack it with all the fury I would Abbadon

Penned by my hand on the 8th of Sarapin, in the year 995 AF.
