The Asterian Masquerade application process

Hail, Sapience.

In reference to the Asterian Masquerade (Public post #22212), we are instituting some adjustments.

You will no longer require to submit three characters for consideration in your application, only one. However, understand that this is on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may resubmit applications if your first is denied.

Your application largely only needs indicate what you know of the character you plan to play. Below I have included two examples of applications: one of a more well-known figure, the other of one less so.

-----------------

Application for Lucaine Pyramides
---------------------------------

My name is Jurixe S. Nithilar and I am applying to play Lucaine Pyramides.

Lucaine was a talented swordsman from Kashar who crossed the seas and was contracted to kill Princess Catarin deSangre by Castomira Brangwin. However, he fell in love with her and joined her side, becoming her knight. He defended her at King's Tomb, allowing her to retrieve the Staff oF Nicator, and wrote one hundred poems to her of his love, but was killed by Trenton Deis before he could confess his love to Catarin.

Lucaine is described as being fiercely deadly and generally solemn, spending his time either guarding Catarin or writing, but records indicate he also showed some wit when he faced off against Lucius Errikale at King's Tomb. Appearance-wise, records indicate he has 'muddy hazel eyes and bronzed skin'. He was almost certainly muscular but lithe, since he could run fast enough to walk on water and go up walls.

I am interested in playing him because I am fascinated by his legacy and admire his dedication, strength of will, and unyielding service to his lady. I hope my application suffices.

Application for Asra-din
------------------------

My name is Jurixe S. Nithilar and I am applying to play Asra-din.

Almost nothing is known about Asra-din. History mentions the person only as a leader of the Blades of Piety, who volunteered to remain behind to oversee the evacuation. However, this is enough to make at least some vague guesses as to Asra-din's character.

Records say that the evacuees were assisted by the armies of the Sapient League, and that the Blades of Piety remained behind. Based on the name of the organisation and the character of someone who might volunteer for a doomed mission, I think Asra'din was a knight and likely good at combat and leadership. They would also have been dedicated and self-sacrificing, like many knights of old. They would have either been the first to lead the refugees away from danger, or the vanguard bringing up the rear to defend them against the 'darker terror' in the ancient city.

I am interested in playing this person because I think they deserve to be remembered beyond being a footnote in history, for their sacrifice.

----------------

I should make clear: we are not necessarily searching for evidence of historical accuracy in these applications, although you should be able to explain any claims you intend to make. We are interested in which personalities you may choose, through this event, to remember and restore awareness to out of so many who have come before us. Effort, in this case, is what is important.

Some have said that they find the availability of characters overwhelming. If this is the case, allow us to suggest some options, which you can read about in Seleucarian history tomes.

From Seleucar and the Black Wave: Nikolas, Severian, Matic Ridley, Guard Captain Ballan Fremont, Ralshev, Sister Lavaine, Princess Selicande, Prince Piraeus, Warleader Lockwood, Raxis Snake-Eyes, and more.

From the Wars of Succession: Catarin deSangre, Mycale deSangre, Lucius Errikale, Lord Damen Kephry, Lucaine Pyramides, Trenton Deis, Orin Grandier, Margaux, Lord Odysseus Rani, Maxim Everhardt, Riana Galford, Leophine Errikale, King Tephicles I, King Dalles VI, General Norij Gaston, and more.

From the Fall of Seleucar: Davis Kephry, Peleus Ecantona, Emmett Bowing, Sir Mordon Derry, Artinos Ravenmoor, Alekh Gunther, Ingram Cairo, Eleanor Thalos, Thoris of Besulem, Orrin Pierce, Jaliah Ormand, Durande, and more.

If you seek more modern personalities, consider: Felisse, Lord Makarta, Batlin Karrella, Hingar, King La'ramhis and so on. You are not, of course, limited to these characters alone. They are simply suggestions.

As the general sentiment I have received is that of hesitation on whether or not one can act, or being overwhelmed by choice and not knowing where to start, I trust this post should alleviate some of those issues. I would urge you to try: the journey of discovery, in many ways, is the entire point of this exercise.

Further questions may be directed to myself. I look forward to receiving your applications.
