What makes a Pirate?

Last month as my band of marauders crested the black seas after the mightiest of bounties- the Primordial Kraken, we met in that vast whirlpool, a great many sailors pulled into a common hunt. Some by happenstance, some by choice, some for survival, and some for glory.

It was at this time, I was reminded what a Pirate is. Sure Pirates plunder ships and prey on others to keep their casks full and their wenches fed, but they are so much more. Pirates are those who take to the seas, not for profit or ease, but for the challenge and the adventure. It is time that we recognized that.

From this point forward, I plan to open membership within the Pirates of Meropis and to change the Pirate Code accordingly to reflect the savvy of so many sailors. Also, the collective pooling of so many plunders will no longer be preferred. Extortion will no longer be the Primary purpose of the Pirates of Meropis.

We plan to welcome all types, creeds, and sailors to partake in various adventures, voyages, and brawls. If there is a bounty involved, a Pirate will be there.

Yes, individual members will still be allowed to pick fights on the high seas, but no member will be required to answer the same call. Other focuses will involve voyages, general adventuring and whatever other trouble we can get in on sea or sandy shore. Further, we will be opening a new avenue of privateering agreements. While this is still an idea in the works, we plan to make members available for hire, to hunt distinct ships and captains, assist or crew on voyages or trade routes, or for a fleet escort. There will be a lot for our pirates to do!

For now, those without a reputation at sea will need to have some experience voyaging that can be discussed. Submissions may be made to me by letter or tell as time allows. Please no messages as I will not reply.

This may or may not have an effect on the considerations of municipality or organizational politics, the appropriate parties are welcome to meet over a bottle of rum with me at their convenience.

With an eye to the cresting tide,
Pirate King Jinsun Ze'Dekiah

Penned by my hand on the 14th of Chronos, in the year 816 AF.
