and let the shadows carry it far

What leaves by its own volition
is not mine to imprison.

What shrubs by its own choosing
is not mine to answer for.

I will not claim another's footsteps,
nor bear responsibility
for roads I did not choose.

I have spent my time
looking, learning,
watching the paths before me
and considering what comes next.

If something departs,
let it depart.

If something remains,
let it remain.

I will settle what is mine to settle,
correct what is mine to correct,
and carry forward
without blaming the next shadow
for the last one.

And when the next time comes,
I will remember what I have learned.

For Yel does not fear what leaves.

She watches.

She learns.

She laughs.
