A Lament for the Dwarves

O, dwarven kings of old,
in caverns dark,
your halls now silent,
your treasures sleep.

No hammer sings its tune,
no anvils call,
the hearths are smothered,
the mountain weeps.

A long forgotten grave,
shades of the past,
time ticks unnoticed,
the mem'ries cold.

But still the tale is told,
"In deepest deeps,
what the darkness holds,
the darkness keeps."

Penned by my hand on the 3rd of Aeguary, in the year 997 AF.
