The rose, she thought, had made it clear,
The blood that must be shed would be shed.
The lily knows this well, yet she, I fear,
Must provide a way to live with herself.

So there goes the lily, explaining away,
In a hollow tone to the yellow rose,
Why she broke the oath of love so clear.
Who is she fooling? Only this lily knows.

The rose, even so, will reiterate,
Though the reason the lily gives
Would apply the other way,
She loves this lily unconditionally still.

She needs no excuse, the lily as well
Stands beside her enemies, resolute.
Did the rose object? This the lily knows well,
May she live with her reasoning, an empty shell.
