On Sheer Bloody-mindedness (an accepted dare)

Conviction doesn't ask advice,
Which helps explain my lasting flaw:
I've never learned to compromise
Or trade the skies for lesser awe.
It holds through second guess and doubt,
Withstands trials and doubles down,
Refuses every easy out,
And smiles when all the weak have drowned.
It scoffs through mocking, bribes, and booze,
No sermon sways its steadfast mind;
It laughs at all that tempts or coos,
And leaves the fickle far behind.
It stays when love packs up and flees -
When next you wake divorced, in sheets
Still warm from yesterday's belief,
You'll wish your spouse agreed with me.
Conviction doesn't bow or bend,
He shrugs and keeps me chasing storms;
Our bond remains unmoved by trend,
While others melt away in swarms.
Penned by my hand on the 15th of Chronos, in the year 992 AF.
