Masks

You saw through my mask,
This veneer of lies.
You recognized the emptiness
In my feigned-bright eyes.
This wall I've built and painted,
Constructed from blocks called "duty".
This smile that hides the truth,
Loneliness buried under "authority".
You wore a tired mask too,
Bent under the weight of hurt.
You trusted me, showed me your heart,
And I just can't resist when you flirt.
You pulled me from my built foundation,
When you broke through and called me "Mine".
Carried me into this new found family,
Your fingers finding mine to entwine.
All I had to do was walk through lava,
To make your mask crack with a smile.
And I'd do it all again, my dear,
To walk with you every mile.
Penned by my hand on the 19th of Valnuary, in the year 989 AF.
