Thrice times II

It was an idle thought that began it all.

Long have the servants of the Lord of Oblivion worked their dire rituals to call up storms of profane origin, and long since have they refined the practice to as close to science as dabbling in the occult can be. As is the way of such practitioners however, Irimon Lotal put a question perhaps better left unasked to the servants of the Mad God: could the scale of the undertaking be increased? So began the decades long campaign to claim reagents from across the planes of existence. Be it from the nobility of Oberion's court or the war torn lands of barren Tashei, or the boiling depths of the magma which cloaks Kkractle's domain or the remnants of hubris turned undeath, the Cult strove for those pieces to a puzzle that may not in fact have had all the pieces forged.

Yet gather them they did, and on a cold day in the 911th year after the Fall of the last great Empire did robed figures gather within the Bog of Ashtan to see the anathema made manifest.

Eight three-eyed priests gathered about an altar of forbidding stone, a congregation massed upon the Prime to the ineffable Lord of the Outer Reaches not seen for centuries. There did they weave their blasphemy against Creation, and there did their long pursued goal find resolution.

Though perhaps not quite as anticipated.

The sky tore open over the gathering, a maelstrom of unnatural power birthed to warp all which lay under its sway. The Bog of Ashtan heaved, and the ancient Prelatorian Highway buckled; stones laid down in the dawn of civilisation shattering beneath the ravaging quakes. Foetid water rose in a great wave, and violet lightning cast the reborn land in an unholy light. The world was reshaped, and the old made new; and at the centre of it all, a tall robe figure smiled with quiet satisfaction.

Summary: the order of Babel performed a long worked on ritual which reshaped the landscape surrounding Ashtan. Whether there remain further consequences of this dabbling with unnatural forces remain to be seen.

Penned by My hand on the 20th of Sarapin, in the year 912 AF.
