Katalys and his Experiments

For many months a Mage, Katalys, calling himself a "Metal Mage" has
wandered Kinsarmar, seeking iron for aide in his experiments. Unsure of
whether they might trust him or not, Kinsarmar cautiously helped him,
watching his intentions. Much to their amazement he began to perform
experiments, showing his amazing powers for as large an audience as he
could muster. Despite a few setbacks with side-effects, Katalys
apparently had an amazing ability to alter weapons and armor for the
better.

On the 11th of Vita, year 428 AD, Katalys set out to perform his final
experiment, hoping to increase the lifespan and durability of metals
everywhere. The preperation took days, but he finally stood ready below
the Archway within Kinsarmar, surrounded by those willing to help. The
experiment began smoothly, and seemed to be succeeding when suddenly the
unexpected occured, Katalys began to show ill effects. Quickly
succumbing to the great magic flowing through him, Katalys died in the
middle of the experiment for an unknown reason, causing it to go from an
apparent success to a terrible failure. All metal in the world is now
cursed by his horrendous mistake, causing it to decay at an incredible
rate. Much to the further dismay of weapon users, all newly crafted
items seem to fail immediately, breaking apart as though forged with
clay. Katalys may be dead for his pride, but his curse may take a far
greater toll in gold.

Penned by my hand on the 11th of Vita, in the year 428 AD.
