Requiem for Ariel

A small, quiet ceremony was held for the burial of Ariel, mayor of
Thera, in the ruins of the Theran cemetery. Erhon, the Overseer of
Ashtan, had retrieved her body from Thera for safekeeping while the
woodcutter Enfrin set to constructing a proper casket for her interment.

The funeral was attended mainly by citizens of Thera's ally, Ashtan,
with Daelok leading the proceedings. The gathered throng offered
prayers, recitations, and many a promise to avenge the mayor's death.
Ardesco, Erhon, Ryukishi, Sarune, Canus, Airtreia, Cypra, Nijias,
Nynevah, and Enfrin were amongst those who offered up their words and
symbolic gifts to the departed.

Ariel was laid to rest in a stately blossomwood casket made from one of
the fabled blossom trees of Thera. At the close of the funeral, a
remarkable sight presented itself: roots burst forth from a bouquet of
alpine blossoms left on the ground, extending down into the earth. The
bouquet grew into an emerald-green ivy that spread abundantly over the
cemetery, the alpine blossoms transforming into Theran ones.

As the flower-laden vines snaked over the cemetery, turning the ruins
into a wild garden, a rain of petals fell from the sky like tears.

Penned by my hand on the 15th of Miraman, in the year 386 AF.
