the Jade Icon

The following was penned by the Celani Mydia.

The story begins on a rather ordinary day with the discovery of a small jade icon carved to resemble a veiled woman by a young Occultist named Ambrosia. Immediately after this discovery, frightening visions and hallucinations accosted the young woman.

She sought out the Sons of all Night's Dreaming, a clan devoted to Lady Valnurana, Goddess of Sleep and Dreaming. They offered Ambrosia membership and the group took the study of the icon upon itself and began to search for meaning behind the visions.

The icon proved difficult to keep track of, however, as it seemed to have the power to move of its own accord slipping silently from one person's grasp, only to be found later by another. The visions became more and more personal and soon proved physically dangerous. The madness caused by the visions led to murders and suicides. Theories abounded as to the meaning behind it all.

It was discovered, upon close inspection, that the icon was broken, a piece was missing and something was leaking out that could only be described as "cold". Thus the search for the missing piece of the icon began.

Santos, in frustration, took the icon to Sharbrena, the Cleric of Darkness and demanded that she share what she knew about it. Claiming ignorance, Sharbrena asked Santos to leave the icon with her so that she might study it and see what she could find out. She proved no more successful than anyone else in controlling it, however, and it soon found its way out of her possession. Not to be put out, the resourceful cleric made a few discreet inquiries and soon received a strange letter from a group calling itself Obeah Ecstasia. They promised to send one of their own to her soon.

Sharbrena is expecting a visit from one of the Obeah Ecstasia some time in the coming months. Hopefully, the arrival of this person will clear up the mystery of the icon. (OOC we are estimating the arrival of the member of Obeah Ecstasia to take place approximately 2am GMT 3/4/01)

Penned by my hand on the 16th of Miraman, in the year 271 AF.
